Guest Jose
I just have three questions about mirrordir, when setting up the mirror hard drive: (1) What do I format it too? All Ext3? (2) Do I have to create the same partition sizes as the disk to be mirrored? I have two 40gb drives, one has the linux and the other has one big and empty vfat partition. (3) Both of the above drives share an ide conection. One is the master (the linux) and the other is the slave (vfat). Is this ok for using mirrordir? I hope to use mirrordir as a backup solution. I need such a solution before ever dreaming of going live with my web server.

This is ok check this out ... http://wapdomainz.com/raid.php ... it may or may not help if mirrordir is NOT software raid ... then ignore my advice
Guest Jose
I did it! I partitioned my second hard drive using fdisk and then did a mkdir -p /mirror/home mount /dev/hdb7 /mirror/home mirrordir /home /mirror/home It worked!!! I also mirrordir my /usr and /var. But when I tried to mirrordir my /boot it did not work, gave me error messages about read only files. I also tried to mirrordir "/" but that didn't take at all. I guess it did not know what I was referencing. How do you back up the root "/" directory? Or do you not? How do I back up my "/root" directory or do I not? Please any advice will be great. I am halfway there. Also I am assuming that I don't backup the swap file. So I need to know how to back up (if necessary): / and /root
