Guest Bwana
Hi, I've a problem with ASLA and my sound card: alsamixer don't have the IEC958 playback control. The SPDIF output of my on-board sound card doesn't works (works on Windows XP, on the same computer).... My sound card is Intel 82801DB-ICH4 and the chip is Realtek ALC655 rev 0. I'v tried to remove /etc/asound.names and /etc/asound.state. And run alsaconf but the IEC958 control is not here!!! This is a summary of my setup: [root@localhost ~]# lspcidrake intel_agp : Intel Corporation|82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE/PE DRAM Controller/Host-Hub Interface [BRIDGE_HOST] Card:Intel 810 and later: Intel Corporation|82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [DISPLAY_VGA] uhci_hcd : Intel Corporation|82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) USB UHCI Controller #1 [SERIAL_USB] uhci_hcd : Intel Corporation|82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) USB UHCI Controller #2 [SERIAL_USB] uhci_hcd : Intel Corporation|82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) USB UHCI Controller #3 [SERIAL_USB] ehci_hcd : Intel Corporation|82801DB/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-M) USB2 EHCI Controller [SERIAL_USB] shpchp : Intel Corporation|82801 PCI Bridge [BRIDGE_PCI] iTCO_wdt : Intel Corporation|82801DB/DBL (ICH4/ICH4-L) LPC Interface Bridge [BRIDGE_ISA] piix : Intel Corporation|82801DB (ICH4) IDE Controller [STORAGE_IDE] i2c_i801 : Intel Corporation|82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) SMBus Controller [SERIAL_SMBUS] snd_intel8x0 : Intel Corporation|82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller [MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO] dpc7146 : Philips Semiconductors|SAA7146 [MULTIMEDIA_OTHER] eepro100 : Intel Corporation|82801DB PRO/100 VE (CNR) Ethernet Controller [NETWORK_ETHERNET] ohci1394 : Agere Systems|FW323 [SERIAL_FIREWIRE] hub : Linux 2.6.23-tmb-desktop586-0.rc8.1mdv uhci_hcd|UHCI Host Controller [Hub|Unused|Full speed (or root) hub] hub : Linux 2.6.23-tmb-desktop586-0.rc8.1mdv uhci_hcd|UHCI Host Controller [Hub|Unused|Full speed (or root) hub] hub : Linux 2.6.23-tmb-desktop586-0.rc8.1mdv uhci_hcd|UHCI Host Controller [Hub|Unused|Full speed (or root) hub] hub : Linux 2.6.23-tmb-desktop586-0.rc8.1mdv ehci_hcd|EHCI Host Controller [Hub|Unused|Full speed (or root) hub] hub : Unknown|USB2.0 Hub [Hub|Unused|Full speed (or root) hub] unknown : Ralink|802.11 bg WLAN usbhid : DM-140GINK Demo|DM-140GINK Demo [Human Interface Devices|No Subclass|None] usb_storage : Unknown|USB Storage [Mass Storage|SCSI|Bulk (Zip)] [root@localhost ~]# lsmod | grep snd snd_seq_dummy 7812 0 snd_seq_oss 33428 0 snd_seq_midi_event 11008 1 snd_seq_oss snd_seq 50332 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq_device 11788 3 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq snd_pcm_oss 42784 0 snd_mixer_oss 19328 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_intel8x0 35484 0 snd_ac97_codec 95268 1 snd_intel8x0 ac97_bus 6272 1 snd_ac97_codec snd_pcm 74244 3 snd_pcm_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec snd_timer 24964 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm snd 51988 9 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac 97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer snd_page_alloc 14088 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm [root@localhost ~]# aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: I82801DBICH4 [Intel 82801DB-ICH4], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel 82801DB-ICH4] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: I82801DBICH4 [Intel 82801DB-ICH4], device 4: Intel ICH - IEC958 [Intel 82801DB-ICH4 - IEC958] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 How I can have my soundcard working with SPDIF output??? tyme
The first thing to do would be to start up alsamixer or some other mixer program, and start unmuting/turning up things to see if it's simply muted by default. note that sometimes outputs won't be properly identified, so you may have to mess with a couple different volume controls to see if any of them have an effect. other than that I'm not sure, as I've never messed with SPDIF in Linux. Guest Bwana
Thanks for the tip. I've tried all possible mixer settings to get SPDIF output to work without success... I'll try again this afternoon.
