Guest ndeb
Edit: With Kmix open, when I hover the mouse over the speaker icon in the panel, is displays a label saying "Volume 31%" even though the volume slider is all the way to the top. I am thinking this is my problem but don't know where to set it to 100%.Well known KDE bug (already reported by many). Don't use kmix. Use aumix to get all sound settings to 100%. <!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin-->Code:<!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin-->probeall scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi <!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin-->probeall usb-interface usb-uhci ehci-hcd <!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin-->alias eth0 bcm4400 <!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin-->alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0 <!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin-->#options bttv radio=0 card=34 gbuffers=4 <!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin-->#above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss <!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin-->#options i810_audio spdif_locked=int strict_clocking=int ftsodell=int clocking=int <!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin-->above snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm-oss<!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteEBegin--> U should not comment the line #options bttv radio=0 card=34 gbuffers=4 because it has to do with ur brooktree tv card, not ur on-board sound card. Anyway, u r currently using the driver snd-intel8x0. Why not try the other driver i810_audio ?
DOA
I tried both drivers and still get the same thing. The volume is very low and I have set everything in Aumix to 100%. Is it also possible to get sound from both my front/rear speakers too?

DOA
Yes, the volume is low even when speaker volume is at max.
Guest ndeb
The version of ALSA driver that comes with LM9.1 is a little old (0.9rc8). Current ALSA driver version is 0.9.3a but I am not sure if installing that will improve things at all.
DOA
I will try installing the latest ALSA drivers. The weird thing is when I first boot up, Aumix will be Muted (under the menu) even though everything shows up as 100%. Upon opening Kmix, I find that the 3D Surround is turned off as well. I have to manually turn on my sound each time. Is this another bug?
