Guest tclauson
I wanted to try out Mandriva, so I installed it on my laptop as a dual boot with Windows XP Pro. After getting tired of the dual boot, I decided to move Mandriva over to its own machine, and leave my laptop as just Windows. I couldn't figure out how to remove Mandriva, and think I may have accidentally deleted the partition it was on. Now when I boot, I get GRUB Error 17. What do I need to do to get rid of all Linux traces on my laptop?
scarecrow
Boot from the windows installation medium (XP?), drop to recovery console, and type "fixboot" at the command prompt. If it still does not boot, do the same and type "fixmbr". Now it should work- or not? If your laptop came with the "regular" recovery CD, and not a proper windows installation disk, then it's considerably more complex... please report. Guest tclauson
Repairing the Master Boot Record worked like a charm. Thanks so much!
