I'm trying to get realaudio to work in Opera 9.5. Thought someone here said it was already preinstalled. Well, not in my version, it isn't. Read the info at Opera on how to install. pretty unintelligible for a newbie ... anybody able to give me step-by-step help?

Download RealPlayer-10.0.7.785-20060201.i586.rpm from the Helixcommunity website, double click the file and allow it to install itself. You'll find a link to RealPlayer 10 under >Menu >Multimedia >Sound :)

The best way (for me at least) is mplayer, the full mplayer win32codecs package, and the gnome-mplayer/gecko mediaplayer combo.

The name is deceptive- it's gtk2, but not a pure gnome app. It works almost perfectly- I can hear/watch any stream, using either FF3 or Opera 9.5

VLC 0.9.0 beta is streaming very well too, but the browser plugin still needs work.
