Booting 2008 with MCNlive boot loader

Hi all

I've been working on getting Mandriva 2008 booting from an external harddrive. So far I haven't had much luck but I think MCNlive might have the solution. MCNlive has the option of "Boot from usb" - an option that loads the drivers and then looks for Mandriva on the first partition of the usb drive.

My question is: Can I use this usb boot option to load Mandriva 2008 if it is installed on /dev/sdb5?

I've tried everything I can think of and now need your help!

It would be great to find a solution to this - I know there are a lot of people asking the same thing: "How do you boot from an external harddrive"

if you get that to work, many of us will raise you to HERO status.

the originator of MCNL has retired, before she finished work on 2008.

APPARENTLY 2008 is so substantially different that aGREAT deal of re-writing of the mklivecd scripts would have to be done in order to get 2008 to run.

I personally have just recently printed out the scripts and stated going through them.

but i know there are a few other folks working on it as well!

i wonder if the corp will put out a decent 2008 flash?

Normally, to boot from an external hard drive, your BIOS has to support it - I believe this is true even if you are using a grub stored on an internal drive that connects to an external, because the BIOS has to recognize the external drive so that the boot loader can access it. I realize this is not really an answer, but simply some information...I have not experimented with booting from a USB drive, so I can not advise you on the specifics.
