Peter Chatterton
I found one problem -- the etc/hosts file had only one entry, localhost, and it was mapped to sympatico.ca! I fixed that, but it still isn't trying. Maybe i'll reboot.
Peter Chatterton
I found one problem -- the etc/hosts file had only one entry, localhost, and it was mapped to sympatico.ca! I fixed that and rebooted, but it still isn't trying. I don't see any BIOS errors for pppd, but i sure would like to slow that screen down! Here's some ifconfig info the way I got it off the mcc Manage Connections dialog: adsl(ppp0) IP DHCP No IP@ No mask DNS Servers: 199.43.182.6 & .5 DHCP dhclient Assign host name from DHCP @ DHCP host name: sysmpatico.ca DHCP timeout: 5 Get DNS servers from DHCP Options Start at boot Metric: 20 Info module name: Mac @: ppp0 Bus: Bus Loc: eth0 (Intel EtherExpress Pro/100) TCP No protocol No IP @ DNS Servers: as before DHCP blanked out Options Start at boot Metric: 10 Info Desc: Intel EtherExpress Pro/100 Media Class: NETWORK_ETHERNET Module Name: eepro100 Mac @: 00:02:55:8a:69:1d Bus/Loc: PCI/1 eth1 TCP see eth0 DHCP see eth0 Options see eth0 Info Vendor: Realtek Desc: RTL-8129 Media Class: NETWORK_ETHERNET Module Name: 8139too Mac @: 00:...:00 (changed) Bus/Loc: PCI/1 (why the same?) daniewicz
I don't know what you mean when you say BIOS msg's What kind of errors do you see in /var/log/messages?
Peter Chatterton
I mean Linux start-up msg's which occur right after what used to be called the BIOS msg's. Yes, these are in /var/log/messages! Thank you, that will be a big help. The only possible deal breaker I see is: -- ifup-ppp: pppd started for ppp0 on at. -- pppd[5335]: unrecognized option 'No' -- ifup-ppp: pppd started for ppp0 on at. -- pppd[5282]: unrecognized option 'No' How can I get these msg's to windows? i.e. can I format a file on my flash drive that will be readable by XP? Peter Chatterton
ifup pppd or ppp1 gives: sbin/ifup: config for pppd not found ifup ppp0 gives: pppd: unrecognized option 'No'
daniewicz
I do not think I can help you further since I use DHCP and have no experience with what you are trying to do. One thing that does come to mind is that the use of a gui may make your configuration task easier. Was there not a package that looks like rp-pppoe-gui also? This would likely provide you with a gui to configure rp-pppoe. Maybe a new post with rp-pppoe in the title would attract some pppoe expertise from the board. Peter Chatterton
Okay, I'll try that. Thanks for your help. Peter
