Guest greeneggs
Hi I run a Mandrake Linux 9.1 box and my current sound card is a Via AC'97. This Via card is proprietary and attached to the board. It does not work correctly and is unsupported by Linux. I know this because I ran sndconfig. Anyway, I just installed a Soundblaster card and sndconfig was able to pick it but it would not play a test sound. Still, I know this SB card works because I had no problem at all when I tested in under Windows. The problem right now is that Linux is still trying to use the old Via driver and I need to know how to uninstall it and get Linux to recognize the new one (SB) instead. Can anyone help me please?. - Thanx a lot!
Guest greeneggs
Nevermind, it turned out to be the mixer. Works good for the first time in a long time now :D
Guest ndeb
All sound cards use proprietary technologies. The issue is whether they release enough info for people to write open-soure drivers. I have a VIA 686b sound card that works ok with linux. Also, you do not have to uninstall a sound driver (part of kernel). You just have to load the correct one.
