edc
I'm totaly disappointed with new Mandriva. First, is it that big problem for mandriva team to make BIOS RAID work out of box? During installatiom BIOS RAID is recognized but after installation it doesn't works. In this 2007.1 release and earlyer Mandriva releases, i need to put "dmraid -ay" in rc.sysinit to get RAID functional. Second, i can't set proper resolution for my Samsung 226BW. During installation monitor is recognized and installer sets 1680x1050 resolution, great, but when i want to test that resolution my monitor goes out of sync! I made my modeline for 1680x1050 and monitor doen't goes out of sync but in that case i only see part of desktop work space of about 80%, i don't see taskbar and far right side of desktop. Ihave ATI x1950xtx with latest ati drivers. How to get 1680x1050 to function normaly like in Windows XP?
tyme
Can we see the modeline you made to run at 1680x1050? It may be that something in the modeline isn't exactly right for your monitor, and it needs changed for it to display correctly. Unfortunately I have no experience with RAID, so I have no advice there. Plus, it seems like you have that working now (unfortunate, though, that mandriva doesn't set this up by default). edc
And one more, i tried to delete all modelines except "1680x1050_60" wich is mode for my monitor, and nothing happens, problem persists. My "1680x1050_60" line was created with command: "gtf 1680 1050 59", because if i use command "gtf 1680 1050 60" i get my monitor out of range. AussieJohn
Your problems are more likely to be a mainboard incompatibility. I am using SATAs and raid with Mandriva Spring and did so also with Mandriva2007. With 2007 a work around was necessary but in Spring no work around was necessary. With 2007 the work around was necessary for an ASUS board and most other board users had no such troubles. It is obvious that Mandriva built in some changes to Spring so a work around was no longer necessary. Remember it is the hardware Manufacturers who are at fault for most of these kinds of problems because they will not supply drivers, or information for Linux developers to develop drivers. When Linux drivers appear it is only because Developers have done the hard work of reverse engineering and then producing the necessary driver. My system installs correctly with either Raid set up or no raid and the raid set after install. It requires no fiddling . In other words it works out of the box. The work around for the ASUS board was inspired by suggestions from Mandriva to try and subsequently experimented with by me and that info relayed back to Mandriva. Obviously Mandriva then had the necessary info to work on and so able to develop a proper fix for the problem written into Spring. I suggest you be a little more considerate before knocking Mandriva Spring. Some people have had little niggles of Spring, I have had none. In fact it would surprise you if you had a careful look at the forums here, just how few the problems are with Spring. Most problems with this version are new users not understanding Linux and trying to think the windows ways of doing things. Most surprisingly, currently most of the present forum items have nothing to do with Mandriva whatsoever. Regarding your monitor problem It is possibly that you have an unsuitable refresh rate selected. It is not enough to just select the resolution. You likely have something like 75 or 80 hz selected where as the Linux driver possibly wants anywhere from 50 to 60 instead. Truth is with an LCD screen you do not need a refresh rate higher than 60hz. With a CRT monitor you do need higher than 60 if possible. My Samsung 913v LCD 19" is using 57hz using an nvidia card. The place to set the refresh rate is to open KDE control centre.........Peripherals.............Display. There is no need to do any CLI. Cheers. John. tyme
Modify: Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1680x1050" "1600x1000" "1440x900" "1280x800" EndSubsection To read: Subsection "Display"Depth 24 Modes "1680x1050_60" "1600x1000" "1440x900" "1280x800" EndSubsection And restart your X server (this can be done with CTRL+ALT+BKSP) Without that extra _60 at the end it's not actually referencing your modeline, it's just using the 1680x1050 resolution with whatever is default.
