Urza9814
So here's an interesting (and hopefully quite simple) problem: my audio only works as root. As root it'll work fine...plays from amarok, plays from VirtualBox, plays from anything. When I try to configure the KDE sound system, I get the following error: 'device: default can't be opened for playback (Permission denied)' Now it seems to me that this should be fairly easy to fix...but I can't seem to figure out how. scarecrow
You should add yourself to the "audio" group (or however it's called in your distro), logout and then back in.
Urza9814
finally got around to trying that. Obviously sound is not a high priority to me :P It required a full reboot, not just a logout, but that was indeed the problem. Then of course I had to mess with the mixer, but yea, seems to be working now. Thanks :)
