mindwave
recently i installed MDV2k7 PP as a 2nd OS on my duocore desktop :D . The pc is pretty standard, duo core 3.4ghz 1.5gb ram LOTS of hd's Xandros4 is the 1st OS, its on a 250gb ATA133 HD MDV is installed on a 200GB SATA device. Both have been working fine for a week. Thursday I closed PAN and it wouldnt launch again from the desktop, so i went CLI launched it and had to re setup all the configuratons (?) Well I did a BUNCH of file transfers between it and my XP pc, things started to get flaky on the XP pc so i decided everyone needed a reboot. now when I choose MDV from the boot menui get en error message about failing to start X and am asked to CTRL D or enter the ROOT PW. CTRL D reboots, root PW, drops me down to a CLI that has a succeeding # next to the prompt. for example LS shows the DIRS in my HIME and the # next to the prompt changes to 2 DFS shows the partitions and the # next to the prompt changes to 3. it goes on like that. I can maneuver around the partitiopn, but not much else. anyone have ANY ideas? i was REALLY begining to like MDV again. thanks j
arctic
At the command line, start the mcc as root and set up the graphics card again. What graphics card do you have? You might need to install a gfx-module in order to have a non-flaky gui.
mindwave
its a simple MSI/Radeon 256MB no frills card. so once i hit the CLI, (i'm logged in as root) does MCC start just by typing mcc? ive never tried it from the cli. thanks j
pmpatrick
Yes, mcc can be started from the command line but you get a primitive ncurses version that you can only navigate with the keyboard, i.e. no mouse support. It still works though. If you are just reconfiguring your graphics setup, you can also run: # XFdrake to bring up an ncurses version of the graphics setup portion of mcc.
