Trio3b
Before I start digging into xsane, curious to know if anyone has any experience with faxing under linux. I sent one fax once, but have been unable to duplicate. Using MDK 10.2 with xsane .97 and Brother DCP7020 multifunction. Scanner and xsane seem to be working fine. Modem is Intel 536ep internal PCI hdwr modem and works fine. Have setup xsanes faxing mode and all works, but when I hit send...nothing. In CL I use the fax send command and recieve error message that efax cannot read multistrip TIFF files. If I try to send PS files as per efax I recieve error message that serial port /dev/modem cannot be accessed or lock file is closed. My modem works fine with Kppp . Modem responds and i am able to connect and Browse. I do have a broadband connection that I use via LAN thru DSL modem, but would like to use the internal 536ep PCI modem for faxing. Apparently xsane or the Brother MF does not support line art, because in xsane setup tab it gives the option to compress TIFF files using G3 compression if using lineart mode which I think is what efax wants, but I do not have that option under mode in xsane . Have tried setting up efax-gtk same result. Hylafax and mgetty seem like way overkill for a single user fax setup. Any help Thanks
