Guest Morty
Hi there, I was wondering if some kind soul could take pity on a Newbie. I've installed Mandriva Free 2007 with the 4 CDs on a relatively old (AMD Duron 1300) PC where I would like it to live in peace with a NT4 partition. Installation went well. Everything done - no networking since just want a workstation. On board graphics driver (SiS630) and monitor tested and worked lovely during installation (800x600 res 256 colours - trying to be on the safe side here). Reboot seemed to go well Got message "Starting display manager" and then screen went blank. Seems indicative of a problem with xstart but all graphics were working fine in installation. I'm lost - can anyone suggest something pretty please, M
ianw1974
Chances are something wrong with the X configuration. When you get the blank screen, do this: Press CTRL-ALT-F1 to get a console prompt. Login as root and enter your root password when prompted. From the console prompt, then type: mcc and then use the arrow keys to reconfigure your display, and tab key to move between options. Guest Morty
Ian, Thanks for the reply. Actually rather embarrassingly my problem is the same as Kingara's about 10 posts down since I too also have an 810 L motherboard. I've now solved this by installing the xorg generic VESA. Before slinking off never to show my face again, I would say that I did go through 3 or 4 pages of posts looking for something relevant but I just 'forgot' that I had an 810 L motherboard - my brain must have turned to mush. Anyway, many apologies for timewasting and thanks for the response, M
