Changing driver for removable disk controller

I have an Intel board with a 965 chipset, and which uses the JMicron Marvel IDE controller for removeable drives. I've been able to install and use the system using the all-generic-ide irqpoll boot paramaters (install also needed pci=nommconf)

I've upgraded my kernel to 2.6.17.8mdv which includes a driver for the controller (advisory MDKSA-2007-:002). How do I change to this driver for the controller? Currently it tries to use the ata_piiv driver, which causes the system to lock on boot unless I use: all-generic-ide irqpoll
