Guest Billy Gareth
I am setting up a media centre PC using Mandriva and Freevo. The pc will actually by playing licenced MPEGS and AVIs out to a plasma screen that I have mounted on the front counter in my office. What I would like to be able to do is just plug the PC into the plasma without mouse and keyboard and manage it remotely from a windows PC also on my LAN. Is there a remote software package like VNC that will install on both linux and win that I can connect to the linux box from my win PC? Thanks once again. I am enjoying the challenge of learning new things. Billy Gareth
ianw1974
Yes, you most certainly can install VNC on Linux no problems. [ian@europa ~]$ urpmf --name vnc tightvnc tightvnc-doc tightvnc-server tightvnc tightvnc-doc tightvnc-server libsvncpp0 libsvncpp0-devel vnc2swf x11vnc x2vnc list if packages available with vnc in their name. The one you need to install is tightvnc-server. You can do through the Install Packages in GUI, or: urpmi tightvnc-server This is the tight version of vnc, as there are others. So you just need to google for the tightvnc client for Windows and you're done for connecting.
Gowator
Yes but its either slow (VNC) or expensive nxserver.... and what you might look into is using http:// interface so you just use a browser ??? or LIRC as well? (in other words just use the TV and LIRC) and configure using http ???
