Hi All

I'm trying to find a way to use MS Briefcase with my Mandriva 2007 box. I have a bunch of files located all over a server at work (over which I have no admin rights) which I edit on my linux laptop. Briefcase is great for synchronising between my XP machines, but I have to manually copy over files I've worked on using my linux box.

Due to work's strict security policy, I can't attache my mandriva laptop to the network to rsynch etc - so would like to use briefcase on mu USB stick to tranfer and synchronise files.

Any pointers?

JT

I think you'd need to set up samba on your Mandriva 2007 machine, and then connect to it this way with Briefcase.

There's an FAQ on samba in the FAQ section here on this board that should help get you up and running with samba.

rsync doesnt have to be across the network, it can be between two directories as well.

assuming the briefcase is on the usb drive, just do an rsync between the usb drive and the place you have it on the laptop to update it. as for the other way, it ought to work fine too presuming a briefcase appears as a standard directory on the flash drive

I have just asked a similar question in another post about SyncToy and got pointed here:
