Arak
Hello, This is my second distribution i've worked with. Yeah, i guess you could say i am a 'newb'. I came from mephis and with that program i was used to having to update 'things' (i don't know what they're called), or packages with a program called 'Synaptic'. Once i installed these certain programs i could install the Nvidia driver. My question is not about the actual install of nvidia (cause i know how to do it) but about how to prepare my system so i can update. When i try to install it, it tells me i'm missing some programs. Could someone kind of walk me through what i need to do to get this going? Thanks
ianw1974
What programs does it tell you that you're missing? And how are you trying to install it? If you set up your easyurpmi repositories using the link at the top of this page and setting up main/contrib/updates/plf-free/plf-nonfree you can get the nvidia driver here with: urpmi dkms-nvidia so if you're not doing it this way, or you are and haven't set up your repositories this is why you're missing a load of packages. And if you downloaded the driver directly from nvidia, chances are it wants some other packages installed so it can install. Usually it tells you so that you can install them. However, dkms is the best way for installing the driver.
Helmut
Hi Arak, Mandriva is a bit different from MEPIS. It is not Debian based and thus uses different tools. Actually, a good part of Mandrivas popularity comes from these advanced graphical tools! See: Applications / System / Configuration / Configure your Computer. You will be asked for the administrator(root) password. The tool that opens is the MCC, the Mandriva Control Centre. Probably you will find what you are looking for right there. Also take time to look at the user-manaul(s). Thats time well invested. See: Applications / More Applications / Documentation / Mandriva Linux User Manual... You could also look at the FAQ's on this web site. Cheers, Helmut. Edited November 21, 2006 by Helmut

Thanks for your help! Now if i can only get cedega working.....
