Kieth
I've been reading the different topics on getting the ATI graphic cards working, and it seems as if my newly downloaded ATI drivers are not installed. Any, I downloaded the drivers using: upmi ati-xorg. Before downloading, the drivers Radeon, Radeon (fglrx), Radeon (vesa) or Radeon 8500 did not work. Therefore the only driver I could/can use is Radeon (fbdev). Any help to get this working would be appreciated. Here is a command I gave in terminal: [root@localhost kieth]# lsmod | grep fglrx [root@localhost kieth]# fglrxinfo bash: fglrxinfo: command not found [root@localhost kieth]# fglrxinfo bash: fglrxinfo: command not found My xorg.conf file is (after deleting Option "DPMS" in the Section "Device") is: # File generated by XFdrake (rev 57713) # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the xorg.conf man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "Files" # font server independent of the X server to render fonts. ianw1974
If you're using the open source drivers, configure for ATI (fglrx). Then after this, in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf make sure you have in the modules section: load "glx" load "dri" and also make sure you have: Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection and make sure you have the mesa packages installed for the opengl libraries. Then you should be done. I have a Radeon 9250 and it won't work with the ATI drivers no matter what I try. Give this a go first and see how you get on. It worked for me. Kieth
Well, I tried it, but something didn't go right. When I chose Radeon (fglrx) in MCC, it said it couldn't load drivers, which I presume is the problem. I accepted the changes anyway ( (fglrx) instead of (fbdev) ). Then I edited etc/X11/xorg.conf. I then rebooted, and everything loaded up fine, but nothing was changed. I just now checked in MCC, and the driver being used is still Radeon (fbdev). Before attempting the above mentioned changes, I had read the other posts and wrote down some commands to enter in terminal. Here they are, with the exception of [root@localhost kieth]# glxinfo | grep direct. I'm not including it, because while I was writing this post a few minutes ago, I was also typing the commands in terminal to post the answers. When I typed in [root@localhost kieth]# glxinfo | grep direct, and pressed 'Enter', it closed the graphical interface (KDE). I was still able to restart my session with lilo, though. Anyway, here are the results of the various commands I put in terminal. [root@localhost kieth]# urpmi mesa The package(s) are already installed [root@localhost kieth]# aticonfig bash: aticonfig: command not found [root@localhost kieth]# fglrxinfo bash: fglrxinfo: command not found [root@localhost kieth]# lsmod | grep fglrx [root@localhost kieth]# The changed section in etc/X11/xorg.conf is: Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" load "glx" load "dri" EndSection Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection Section "InputDevice"
Kieth
Finally, all is working well! As I mentioned in my first post, I loaded the ATI drivers with upmi ati-xorg. Then I did as ian mentioned, but nothing would work. Then on another post, where ian was helping someone else, he mentioned to download the drivers with urpmi dkms-ati. I did this, followed the instructions given when they installed, and now everything is working great. glxgears gives a rate of 9363 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1872.533 FPS 9344 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1868.619 FPS 9343 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1868.573 FPS Thanks ian!!! ianw1974
Hey nice one. I can't use the dkms-ati stuff with my card :-( Glad it worked for you, the open source is the only way for me. :P
