WineX

I think that WineX is a good program although I haven't used it yet. Maybe better: a good initiative. I'm considering installing it, so I don't have to go to windows if I want to play a windows-game our use some commercial windowsprograms I already had and used working with. What I was asking myself is: Can Windows virusses also damage your linux system then. I know that linux is different than windows, with it permissions, but I suppose that some virusses or trojans will work not?

Most of the viruses these days rely on flaws in Windoze and use them to run scripts.

So, technically, if you had to run a program like Outlook Express (which is the target for many such viruses) through Winex, then some of the scripts could run. BUT - the virus would not affect your system, because you are not running windows.

Remember, Winex fakes a windows file system in a directory in your home folder. You don't have a windows' registry and no windows file sharing protocols, so these viruses would just fall away into oblivion.
