javaguy
Can't anything ever be easy? ;) I upgraded to 2007, downloaded the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8776-pkg1.run file from the Nvidia web site and ran it as root. I've been through this process a number of times, and it actually went smoothly the last time I upgraded. This time, however, I got an error message saying the kernel was compiled with the wrong version of gcc. :( Has anybody seen this, and what do I do about it? Thanks! javaguy
Never mind, I figured it out. Getting sleep helped a lot. Before attempting to install the drivers I had carefully made sure to install the kernel source package. I didn't look carefully enough at what version of the kernel source I was installing. Running uname cleared it up for me.
AussieJohn
Good one Javaguy. Letting us know how you resolved your problem yourself and that it was caused by a mistake of your own making gives us all (me included) a wakeup call to exercise just that little extra care. It takes a very big man indeed to admit he made a mistake and how he overcame it. It also gives a good reminder lesson to this particular repeated experience of others in relation to installing nvidia drivers. To me you stand 10ft tall. Cheers. John.
