Guest Les Hathaway
As I am still on a steep leaarning curve, can someone guide me in the right direction? On boot up, the following message is displayed : Sound server informational message: Error while initializing the sound driver: device: default can't be opened for playback (No such file or directory) The sound server will continue, using the null output device. TIA Les
jboy
What this means is that the /dev/dsp device is missing, which means that your sound card driver was not properly detected and installed. From the main menu, go into System -> Configure Your Computer -> Hardware -> Sound (I think this is the right menu path, I'm not in Mandriva right now) and run the config tools there to see if you can get it working. You may be prompted to install some new packages.
