cannot change font size in single user mode

Recommended Posts

Hi, I want to learn how to decrease/increase font size when in single user mode

(and change to 132 columns) in mandy 2005 LE

I am looking for a command line.

vga=ask for grub does the job during boot but then it seems init.d

or something reverts to some mandriva default size font (and number of columns)

I have read about toe, stty, setterm, env

Infocmp takes the -w argument

Setterm takes -linewrap on but nothing about 132 columns

This has left me very confused as to how fonts are initialised in single mode.

Any idea?

Thanks

You have to set it in your lilo.conf or grub.conf on the kernel loading line by putting, for example:

vga=773

for 1024x768. Of course, this sets it permanent, not sure if you can do it on the fly.

Thanks, you gave me half the solution

If I use vga=ask single then at some point during boot the font resize to its default.

Strangely vga=7xx single makes it permanent (this kind of behaviour difference vga=ask vs vga=7xx I would never had imagined)

Of course, this sets it permanent, not sure if you can do it on the fly.

That is what I am trying to do. Once in single mode.

I will post here if I ever find out
