hea
Giving myself read-access to this file, would it be unwise? Its just a log file and i use it often so it would be convenient not having to be root to read it, but i dont like the idea of messing with security on my system. Are there some general rules or advices here?
Guest copex
hi ill say this first im new to the world of linux, though i dont see any problem with anyone been able to read the file, it all depends on what infomation it is loging. what you could do is alow read access for the group and add you self as a member of the root group. or i suppose you could cerate a new group say admin and then change the ownership of the file to the admin group and make yourself and root a member of the group...... though i not sure if makeing these changes would cause you security problems all the best
