Guest ravichandra
hi i have a pc with AMD 3500, Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9 motherboard. i am new to linux and dont know much about it. i have installed mandriva 2006. My problem is my linux does not play audio. its says something like it did not find any audio device when i tried to play .mp3's. I guess i need audio drivers. My motherboard has onboard sound from realtek 7.1 channel high definition audio. Can some body please give a link to download appropriate audio drivers. And please explain how to install them. Lexicon
This motheboard has chipses High Definition Audio (Azalia). You mus have driver snd-hda-intel, check modinfo snd-hda-intel If yes, add to /etc/modprobe.conf options snd-hda-intel ###here can add model e.g. model="z71v" alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel alias snd-slot-0 snd-card-0 options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 Test it .....Lex
scarecrow
The Lexicon suggestions are fair, but the alsa shipped with Mandriva 2006 (1.0.9) does not work for snd-hda-intel chips, regardless of the firmware used. You must upgrade to alsa 1.10 RC2 or newer. Using a specific model, as suggested above, is necessary if you want kmix showing the proper input/output channels- but you will get sound, even without a model argument.
