papaschtroumpf
My wife has not been complaining since I replaced Windows with Linux on the family laptop, but she finally did yesterday: Safeway stores is running a promotion that requires you to go to a flash web site, and the site complains that we are not running the latest version of flash. As far as I can tell the latet version for windows is 8, but the latest for linux is 7. For all I know it could be that the web site is being stupid and refusing to play content that it could with flash 7, but the bottom lline is, it's not wooking. Dustpuppy
Oh yes, Flash 8. Flash has been execrated by the entire Linux community, and has still refused to release Flash 8 for Linux. Twats.
scarecrow
Thre will never be Flash 8 for Linux. Blame either Macromedia, or Adobe for that- whichever you prefer. Adobe Inc. has promised Flash 9 for Linux sometime next spring- personally I don't take it for granted, and until the time comes you can try IE6 and flash plugin via wine, or a virtualization solution. Of course both options are not the real thing, but still- better than nothing.

I did call the corporation sponsoring the web site and pointed out that they should have a low-tch low badnwidth alternative to that flash <censored>
ffi
I do believe adobe are working on flash 9 but it will take quite some time: http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/ flash 9 + win/opera works for most sites under wine which require the latest flash version...
