null
I have a Panasonic miniDV video camera. I just installed a FW card in my linux box tonight, hooked the camera up, and tried out kino. All I get is a blank black screen... I can't get the buttons to do anything, they are grayed out. If my camera is in Play mode, nothing is displaying on the kino screen... coverup
Is the FW interface up? Does harddrake detect the card and start interface without errors?
null
I shutdown the computer before opening it up and installing the firewire card. Hoped it would recognize the new stuff automatically... I'm at work now, I'll check it out when I get home later... thanks!
null
Ok, HardDrake shows the firewire controller and "ohci1394" for the module. Shouldn't kino know what to do? In kino preferences, what should be marked under the Capture tab and the IE13994 tab? For Driver, there are 2 choices, raw1394 and dv1394. Neither one does anything. Under the Capture tab, DV AVI type 2 is marked, and I also tried Raw DV. edit: ok, I just noticed a kino error message..."The IEEE1394 subsystem is not responding". I have to load a module or something... Edited June 16, 2006 by null
null
ok, I made some progress. I did a modprobe raw1394, and modprobe dv1394, and now I am a little bit further along... the AV/C part of kino now will control playback on my camera, and kino also knows now what camera I have... still playing around with it... null
still can't capture or even see any video on my monitor. So any help appreciated... also, I have to do a modprobe raw1394 after every reboot... how do I get it to always be loaded...?
coverup
add raw1394 to /etc/modprobe.preload (kernel 2.6.x) or /etc/modules (kernel 2.4.x)
null
thanks, I added it to /etc/modules. I may have to buy another firewire card for my win2k box, there's gotta be some freebie windows progs out there that work easier... null
turns out all it was is that you have to remove the eth1394 module..
