Please open a terminal (or run a terminal session), run the following commands as root and post output of them here:

ls -l /var/log/Xorg.0.log
lsattr /var/log/Xorg.0.log
mount

Run "mount" without any arguments, just "mount"

This should tell us if there is a permissions or attribute problem with the file, or if you have mounted the filesystem of your root (or /var) partition in "read-only" mode.

Edit: Also, which user permissions are set for the /usr folder? (ls -l /usr)
