Guest ik@z
i have changed the color depth in "/etc/X11/XF86Config'' to 32 bit but the X window did not start ! & also the same problem with the line commande startx -- -bpp 32 i want only know if the X don't support the 32 bit color depth or the probleme come from graphic card driver? & thanks [moved from Software by spinynorman]
tyme
please post the contents of your XF86Config file. 32bpp is supported, if you post this file we should be able to help you find the problem.

daniewicz
from this link: http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.0/XF86Config.5.html The range of depth values that are allowed depends on the driver. Most driver support 8, 15, 16 and 24. Some also support 1 and/or 4, and some may support other values (like 30). Note: depth means the number of bits in a pixel that are actually used to determine the pixel colour. 32 is not a valid depth value. Most hardware that uses 32 bits per pixel only uses 24 of them to hold the colour information, which means that the colour depth is 24, not 32. Short answer, there's really no such thing as "32-bit color" at all. This applies to linux and MS.
