ianw1974
What do you mean by problems getting it running? No graphics? No 3D?
Guest infotraider
Can't find the right driver in the video card section. And if I select ATI Xorg section the display screws up. Currently running in vesa. But when I go to run games the screen screws up
ianw1974
Have you tried using the ATI Radeon (fglrx) that is listed?
Guest infotraider
Have you tried using the ATI Radeon (fglrx) that is listed? have tried that but it dosn't work errors with config file is when I get back Have downloaded the driver form the ATI website but I try and run the the "aticonfig" file I keep getting an error message saying it can't find the config file xorg.conf in /etc/x11 even though I have pasted a copy there???? Thanks for all the ongoing help :D
ianw1974
xorg.conf should have existed by default in /etc/X11 if your using Mandriva. The ATI driver does require your kernel source installed. Make sure this matches your current running kernel. uname -r to get the running kernel, and then: urpmi kernel-source to install your kernel source. Guest alpa
I tryied to install Mandriva 2006 RC2 into my notebook Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo but I have problems with ATI card. My video card is ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 SE. I install my Mandriva, then, when appears final window where I can see actual configuration before rebooting, I see my video card isn't configured. So I try to configure it manually, choosing between available ATI drivers. But when I push button to TEST my new configuration monitor become BLACK and even if I wait the end of test nothing happen. After many minutes of black monitor I must reboot and my Mandriva can not start X ! Any idea how to solve? Should I choose a different driver and in a second time install ATI driiver for my card ? How I can do it ? If I will install Mandriva 2006 Official this problem will be solved ?
ianw1974
RC2 is a beta release, so yes official releases are always better since beta's will mostly always have problems. You're better off using official versions, unless you know what you're doing, or can live with the problems you get with the beta versions. I would recommend you install Mandriva 2006, and then as soon as it's installed apply all the updates. During install on the summary screen you can configure your graphics and test it to see if it works. If it doesn't choose vesa, and then when you've applied all the updates, try configure the screen again with the ATI (fglrx) card and see if it's any better. The updates fix a lot of problems that mostly related to nvidia and ati cards. Another thing would be if you can't get the ATI drivers working, then to use vesa, and then do: urpmi dkms-ati then once these are installed, you can then reconfigure the graphics again to use these additional drivers for your system. Gul Dukat
Or if you added the PLF-source to your urpmi-config, you can install the ATi-drivers from those sources: urpmi ati-xorg Edited May 18, 2006 by Gul Dukat
