Ironfighter
I like using Konqueror as a web browser. I would like to update to the latest version however I would like to know if I have to update anything else like the KDE and Kernel versions. I have read a few posts by members who have experienced problems when updating KDE and the Kernel. I dont´t want that to happen to me :D. I have after several months got my linux box doing nearly everything that I want it to do so my questions are: Is it worth updating Konqueror Do I have to update KDE and/or the Kernel or should I leave well alone. Currently I have Konqueror 3.2.3 on KDE 3.2.3. My Kernel version is 2.6.8.1-10mdk. All advice appreciated.
daniewicz
If you want to update Konqueror, you will need to update KDE. As you know, updating KDE can result in problems. I would leave well enough alone, but that's just me :P If you switch to firefox, you will be able to update your browser without fear. Ironfighter
Thank you - I think I´ll leave things as they are. I do have FIrefox installed so I migh also try the new version of that browser.

Ironfighter
Firefox 1.5.0.2 was just released. Can the update be done using urpmi? - if so what is the command? (I´m scared of those tarballs :D )
daniewicz
There is no rpm for something that new. It really is very easy to use the tar ball. You aren't so much installing as just unpacking.

Ironfighter
I managed it. I think I was reading to much stuff when I first tried those Tarballs. :D The only thing is I installed in my home folder. Then I just put am icon on the Kicker. Is this OK? Its working well - I am posting this message using it.
daniewicz
You can install anywhere you like. If the version of firefox you upgraded from was old, it wouldn't hurt to empty the cache.
Ironfighter
Thanks - I used urpme to uninstall the old version and just unpacked the new tarball like you said. I am glad I took your advice. This new version is really slick. ;)
