Guest dturley
On a whim, I picked up a lynksys wireless g router and pcmcia card today. I'm running MD 8.2 Should I return it unopened? Any chance of it working?
Guest jjm56
hey, if it's a linksys wpc11 pcmcia wireless card then you are probably in luck. goto this site and in one of the comments they talk about how to get it working. worked great for me http://www.pclinuxonline.com/modules.php?n...1&sid=2159#6333
Guest dturley
Well, the first card I tried was linksys' new wireless g card. Unfortunately it turns out to be a card bus device. Not supported by any wireless card drivers in Linux. (A familiar theme. :-) So I exchanged it for a gook ol' WPC11. I found lots of ideas via google that invloved editing ifcfg-ethN, even the wireless tools page said that's how it works in MD 8.2. Boink, that's the sound I heard; no go. So I set it up according to the URL given by jim56b above, and ping ping, it works. Even have WEP working! I can see that this wireless thing is only for when I *really* want to get away from my desk. It's a tad slow, even for console use, but durn if it doesn't work! Thanks jim!
