kwlam
I am using mandriva 2005. I tried to installed abiword from the tarball. However, it doesn't work and fail to install. Which versoin of rpm or tarball of abiword is available for mandriva 2005? Also, any advantage of abiword, such as speed or compability with MS word over OOo? coverup
It looks like you have trouble with lots of apps. Most of them are available as rpms, but for nonmandriva ones you still need to use tarball. It hard to say from your post, but it looks like your installation is very basic and may miss many components such as compilers which are part of the developer suit. Try to reinstall your system, this time do the manual selection of packages, and select all packages by clicking them.
kwlam
There are a number of plugins for abiword, such as gimp, etc. What are they and what are their function?
Gannin
Abiword is a bit faster and smaller than OpenOffice.org, but OpenOffice.org is by far more powerful and compatible.
