I am using mandriva 2005 LE. However, many softwares do not function properly. For example, I cannot use kaffeine or totem to play vcd or mp3 or cd. I can use mplayer to play rmv but not vcd or mp3. I cannot use xine to play mp3 or cd. I hope I did not make any mistake. Kaffeine, xine and totem use the xine engine and they should play mp3, cd, vcd. Mplayer should play mp3, cd, vcd and rmv. Am I correct? Another problem is that I cannot add plugin to the browsers. I used opera 9.0 and the built-in firefox. In fact, I want upgrade to the newest version of firefox but it failed. It seems that it is difficult to upgrade the softwares. I want to use the plugins, such as mplayer, xine, acrobat, realplayer but all failed. I cannot installed the acrobat 7.0 and real gold 1.0. There are a lot of problem with all these softwares. Also, why is the plugins so difficult? I am using mandriva LE 2005. Which version of realplayer ( I have tried realplayer 9 and 10), acrobat reader, firefox should I used and how to install? Also, helix player. There are so many software but none of them seem to be workable. How to install the plugin or which version of plugin should I install? For example, what should I do if I want to watch the streaming of WMA, realplayer, quicktime, etc? All of them are very basic for web and there is no problems for windows. I have used mandrake since 8.0 and in fact I want to continue to use mandriva if I can succeed in installing the softwares.

It should be vfat as it is windows 98 SE. I can read it but I want to paste some files or folder from the /home directory to /mnt/windows directory but it said that access is denied. How to do it so that I can paste the file from /home directory to the /mnt/windows directory?

I am using the mandriva LE 2005. I have two harddisk. One is windows. I can find the windows in /mnt/windows. I want to change it to that I can view, write and execute as a user. In fact, I am not good at the command mode and all I want to use is the samaba. What is the problem? I can do it in a previous version. Can you tell me how to create the samba password?

In the console, I type with root: cat /etc/passwd | mksmbpasswd.sh> /etc/samba/smbpasswd However, it showed bash: mksmbpasswd.sh: command not found In fact, I succeeded with previous version of mandrake. What is the correct order? Other than the mandriva menu, any order for the rpms? I just follow the sequence of the rpms?

I have logged out and type the oowriter2 and ooimpress2 in the console. I have used the rpmdrake for removal and I can find the openoffice 1.1.4 rpm but not the open office 2.0.

I have installed the openoffice but I cannot find the openoffice 2.0. I just double click the rpms and enter the password of root but I am not sure whether I installed it or not. I checked from from rpmdrake but it was not found. Can anybody help me?

I have installed all the rpms, but when I started the OOo, it is still the older version. How to start the OOo? From the command line or from the GUI? How to do that?

If I want to remove the usb drive, is it necessary to unmount it first? In windows, we cannot directly remove the usb drive. I have removed the usb drive without unmounting it, it seems that there is no problem. Is it correct? Also, for the floppy drive, is it necessary to unmount it before removing the floppy disc? If I want to install OOo2. should I uninstall the older version first. I am not good at linux and I usually used rpmdrake. I do not uninstall it, will there be 2 OOo in my system? If I install OOo with rpmdrake, I install the mandriva directory first. Then is it necessary to install all the other with rpmdrake, too? There are many files, indeed.
