shams
hi, when i want to start posfix from /etc/rc.d/init.d this is the error: #/etc/rc.d/init.d/postfix start Starting postfix: Error: cannot find $daemon_directory/smtpd, exiting [FAILED] [moved from Software by spinynorman]
tyme
try this instead (assuming this is mandriva): # service postfix start atleast, I believe that's the command :) (obviously the # is there to indicate doing it as root, it's not part of the command)

tyme
how did you go about installing postfix? did you use the software installer in Mandriva Control Center?
shams
is use: urpmi postfix actually the posfix was starting ok, after installation but i changed the configuration files of postfix to my server, now it doesn't start, for the prevous error i changed the $daemon_directory path to the correct value which is /usr/lib/posfix in the main.cf, but now i get the error: /etc/rc.d/init.d/postfix start Starting postfix: [FAILED] no other error message. tyme
well, i suppose posting your postfix config file may help resolve the issue (sounds like the problem is in there), but unfortunately i have no experience with postfix myself (i used qmail when I ran a mail server) so i may not be able to pick out problems in the config file.
