ok, I have tried amavis-new with clamav and postfix, but have'nt tried mailscanner yet, but I'm sure that some from here have tried it, so maybe you can share the good and not so good experience on any of the two.

.

Why Im asking this is because I am planning to implement a permanent spam and virus control on the email server of my client.. but due to not enough budget, we have to go on opensource ...

.

TIA

:D

I implemented a solution with clamav and amavisd-new running on Gentoo with postfix. Works a treat once you get it all configured up correctly.

The only thing I had to do was run clamav under the amavis user and group accounts to solve the permissioning problems trying to run them as separate accounts clamav or amavis.

No, never tried mailscanner as of yet. I might give it a go when I next get some spare time to test a server and have a go at it.

At the time I built, I had no idea on what I was doing, so was easier to follow the howto's. Next time, I can try something different! :D
