PigBucket
I'm using Mandriva 2006 and it successfully detected my Canon N640P-ex but when I try to scan anything, it starts and then just stops after about 5 seconds. Anybody else experiencing any problems ? Notes: Canon N640P-ex parallel attached with Epson 440 Printer. Printer works fine. I thought I saw somewhere on the net a linux driver for the Canon N640P (but I can't seem to find it at the moment) and thought of installing that ? devries
According to this the scane works good with the sane open source drivers. ( http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON ). No need to install a Canon driver. Better try configuring the scanner again. If the MCC gives you problems try the command line. To see how sane is now configured type: scanimage -T
PigBucket
I'll go and have a look over at www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON... I tried the scanimage -T and the scanner start to whir, then starts scanning and then stop s... [root@daputer share]# scanimage -T scanimage: scanning image of size 292x295 pixels at 8 bits/pixel scanimage: acquiring gray frame, 8 bits/sample scanimage: reading one scanline, 292 bytes... .... and that's as far as it gets.... PigBucket
Well it checked out a few things at http://soft.zoneo.net/Linux/scan.php and installed saned, sane-backends and sane-frontends, but still no go. I then stumbled across http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/s...ber/009790.html and so I checked out my files... all looked ok except I did notice in /etc/sane.d/canon_pp.conf that there was this commented parameter... # Enable the next line if you're having trouble with ECP mode such as I/O # errors. Nibble mode is slower, but more reliable. # force_nibble ... and because the scanner would actually start working but then just hang, I was wondering if it could be an i/o problem... so I uncommented it and voila! it works. Don't you just love computers ..... Thanks for all your help.... PigBucket
