coverup
I had KDE system notifications working OK including KDE start up jingle and all others. That was until I disabled and then enabled the sound system in System -> Configuration -> KDE -> Sound -> Sound system. After I have enabled the sound system back, sound works. Pressing "Test sound" button plays the KDE start up tune. KsCD, kaffeine and totem play CD fine, and noatun plays WAV's. Only thing which I can't get back is KDE system notifications... I can play them with noatun as an exteranl player, but no longer can use the default player (whatever that is...). Any help please? ianw1974
Have you checked the sound settings were the same as they were before disabling? The only time I've ever seen this is when I've upgraded via urpmi from one version to another, and then the sounds for notifications wouldn't work. I think it's a KDE configuration file somewhere, but I really don't know if I managed to sort it out or not. Check for some rpmnew or rpmsave files using slocate. You might need to do updatedb first, so: updatedb slocate rpmnew slocate rpmsave you might then be able to restore the rpmsave, or rpmnew files in a hope to get it back how it was. The only way I remember sorting it was new install, but obviously there must be a better way than this. Sorry I can't help more than what I suggested above. coverup
Thanks for the quick reply... Agree it's likely some settings... I wish I new which setting I need to check! I did not install/uninstall anything just unchecked/checked the box as user... Oh, I may have shutdown the box in between as well. I didn't do anything beyond that... coverup
That was easy... Edited ~/.kde/share/config/knotifyrc to change Arts Init=false KNotify Init=true Use Arts=false to Arts Init=true KNotify Init=true Use Arts=true Edited January 13, 2006 by coverup
ianw1974
I wonder if the GUI shows the ARTS options, without having to edit the file? I'll have to check my system when I get home, as I'm not on it right now! Will have to remember this should I ever encounter again! Glad your sorted :P
