Arne
Hi all, I have been following this topic: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=30151 Trying the following procedure as written by scarecrow: Open root consoletelinit 3 Login as root alsaconf telinit 5 First on my 2006 as root: "alsaconf not found" because it was not installed so I tried "alsa.conf" and then "hell break loose" After reboot I get this error message: Sound server informational message:Error while initializing the sound driver: device /dev/dsp can't be opened (Permission denied) The sound server will continue, using the null output device. What is the meaning "sound server ..using the null output" My KMix dont run and cannot be started. and [root@hutch arne]# urpmi kdemultimedia-kmix The package(s) are already installed. In mcc service alsa is stopped and cannot be started and my sound is gone. How do I get my sound back????? In mcc software I am told: Name: alsaconfVersion: 1.0.9-4mdk Architecture: i586 Size: 41 KB Summary: ALSA configuration tool Description: Alsaconf is a tool that enables one to configure his sound card with ALSA. It's often not not needed as mandriva linux will auto configure sound cards. So do I need it or not ????
scarecrow
You probably need an alsa version newer than 1.0.9. Which soundcard is that?
Arne
scarecrow I have this sound chip on board: Vendor: Intel Corp.Description: ICH2 810 Chipset AC'97 Audio Controller Media class: MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO Connection Bus: PCI Bus PCI #: 0 PCI device #: 31 PCI function #: 5 Vendor ID: 32902 Device ID: 9285 Sub vendor ID: 32902 Sub device ID: 19780 Driver Module: i810_audio Alternative drivers: snd-intel8x0 After a couple of re-boot's my sound is back. Strange since I haven't changed anything. My interest in this is some problem with playing audio CD and DVD's. DVD's with different zones, Europe, USA and Asian. I would like to use Amarok as a standard media-player. When I insert a audio CD it load kdeCD player and when I insert DVD I am often told it cannot be played. I have a set up according to ARtee configuration so it should be able to play all zones but it don't Do you have any idea what is missing in my setup?????
