tl017
Hi All, I installed Mandriva2006_64 on a AMD Athlon 64 3500+, Board MSI K8N, onboard sound chip nForce3 250Gb and with snd-intel8x0 driver. I can listen to music from my Hauppauge TV-Card (bt878 chip) and play systemsound (ogg-files from KDE -> Systemnotification menu). But when I try to play an ogg-file (or other formats) from my home directory with XMMS, there is no sound. XMMS seems to run, but I can`t hear anything. When I try the same thing with MPlayer a warning messeage pops up: "AO OSS audio setup Can't open audio device /dev/dsp. The device is busy." Some seconds later MPlayer plays the soundfiles despite this message. But the problem is, that I cannot record sound!! As root "/sbin/fuser -v /dev/dsp" shows nothing (when no sound application is running). When I start KHdRecord and type in agains "/sbin/fuser -v /dev/dsp" I get the message, that KHdRecord is using dsp of course. So that works. But what is blocking the /dev/dsp when no other sound application is open? I have no idea what to do. Please help! Thanks in advance. tl017
Hi All, I solved the problem by myself: I bought a PCI soundcard, deactivated the onboard soundchip and now it works. tl01j smilie7
