  1. Hi ianw1974, after you have warned me to move the whole /var I only moved /var/cache/urpmi* according your posting and everything works fine. Best regards, tl017
  2. Hallo All, I have only approx. 400 MB on /root partition, normally enough but caused problem during MandrivaUpdate, because 630 MB download volume is needed. The update tool will download to /var/cache/urpmi. On /usr I have lot of space (approx. 1.8 GB), therefore I would like to move /var to /usr/var, but I don'nt know how without breaking my system. I hope someone out here can help me. Many thanks in advance, tl017
  3. Hi Kowash, I always use KHdRecord. Its a small programm able to record in ogg, mp3 or wav format. It is also able to count up from a base name, though that previous soundfiles will not be overridden. I think I got it from sourceforge.net (I´m not sure). Good luck, tl017 PS: There was a "bug" in the program: the binary files "KHdRecord" and "KHdRecordRemote" were not executable after download. After changing this the program works fine for me.
  4. Hi jolphil Can you burn CD´s as root? (Make yourself root in a console and start k3b by typing "k3b". If yes, the following procedure should fix your problem: When you are in the setup window of k3b: there is an entry near the top of the window that says "use burning group" or something similar. Aktivate it (checkbox) and name the burning group "cdwriter". A group "cdwriter" exists in MDK2006 from the start. Now make yourself member of that group with userdrake: double-click at your username and a window pops-up where you can choose different groups to join. After that burning as normal user should work. Have fun, tl017
  5. Hi Joni, try Dr.Geo - a geometry program - or kig (KDE Interactive Geometry). Ciao, tl017
  6. Hi All, I tried all the things that you suggested but it did´nt help. So I am giving it up! Running audacity and k3b as root now and changing the files owner afterwards. But thank you all again for the supplied advices. tl017
  7. Hi All, I installed Mandriva2006 64bit version. Everything is ok, except that a normal user is not allowed to burn CD´s. I activated the non-root-modus in xcdroast and made myself member of the groups CD and cdwriter, but it does´nt helped. As root xcdroast and K3b are working fine. Tanks in advance, tl017
  8. Hi All, I solved the problem by myself: I bought a PCI soundcard, deactivated the onboard soundchip and now it works. tl01j smilie7
  9. Hi vincer, You can also download this driver from www.smlink.com Sincerily, tl017
  10. Hi All, I installed Mandriva2006_64 on a AMD Athlon 64 3500+, Board MSI K8N, onboard sound chip nForce3 250Gb and with snd-intel8x0 driver. I can listen to music from my Hauppauge TV-Card (bt878 chip) and play systemsound (ogg-files from KDE -> Systemnotification menu). But when I try to play an ogg-file (or other formats) from my home directory with XMMS, there is no sound. XMMS seems to run, but I can`t hear anything. When I try the same thing with MPlayer a warning messeage pops up: "AO OSS audio setup Can't open audio device /dev/dsp. The device is busy." Some seconds later MPlayer plays the soundfiles despite this message. But the problem is, that I cannot record sound!! As root "/sbin/fuser -v /dev/dsp" shows nothing (when no sound application is running). When I start KHdRecord and type in agains "/sbin/fuser -v /dev/dsp" I get the message, that KHdRecord is using dsp of course. So that works. But what is blocking the /dev/dsp when no other sound application is open? I have no idea what to do. Please help! Thanks in advance.

    Slmodem Problem

Hi All, I searched the forum for some quarters but coulnt find a solution for my problem. Sorry in advance if I may have overseen a useful post. Im running LE2005 (Mdk 10.2) with a SoftLink PCI modem. It worked fine under Mdk10.1, but after I installed the LE2005 yesterday the kernel cannot load the module slamr. When I try to do it by hand, I get a fatal error message; and a file slamr.ko.gz is missing, but I can see it with a filemanager. What happens? The dmsg output (if this is a help) I will add as an attachment. Thanks ind advance, tl017 modemproblems.txt
  12. Hi All, I installed wine-20050625 under Mandrake 10.1 to run Origin 6.0. Everything is fine until I try to save it to disc. It does´nt matter which folder or drive I choose. The only thing I can save is the diagram, I can export it as pdf, wmf, eps and so on, but the whole project with the data will be lost when I have to close the session. Whats wrong? I have also no idea how to configure wine, since the config file is´nt anymore in wine. Thank you in advance, tl017 Moved to Emulation. Yves, moderator.
  13. Hallo lanw1974, it was just as you assumed: "Do you only get sound when you hit the test button, but no sound with events or anything else?" But thanks to your advice to run alsaconf now it works as it should: system messages, audiorecording and all the nice stuff. Thank you again, tl017 ergo: Problem soved!
  14. At first, thank you for the quick response! I did as you advised me but it still does´nt work. I hit in the console "artsd" (as root) to start it (maybe the wrong way?) and got the following output: ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:549:(snd_pcm_hw_start) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_START failed: Broken pipe In ksysv "artsd" is not available as systemservice, but it is installed. Thomas.
  15. Hi all, Im running Mdk 10.1 and I can listen music from my tv-card/radio chip and play audiofiles from HDD, but I dont have audio for system messages (like KDE startup sound). Furthermore no audiorecording is possible, and videorecording only without audio. I activated the soundsystem, and when I go to "System - Settings - KDE - Look and Feel - Soundsystem" and press the botton "test sound system" I hear the default KDE startup wav-file. But after a reboot it started again without sound. I completely reinstalled Mdk 10.1, with formatting partitions root and user and removing all hidden files and directories in my home folder before doing so. But it does´nt help, also normally after an Install KDE starts with sound by default (at least this is my experience from 2 previous installs some month ago). When I try to link events with some sound via menue "System - Settings - KDE - Look and Feel - system messages", check the box "play sound" and press the botton for playing the choosen wav-file, nothing happens. It is not that the progress bar moves and I "only" can´t hear it, but nothing is happen at all. The system does´nt even try to play the file. What can I do? I´m in the full dark with absolutely no idea how to help myself.
