Guest armando2002
Hi, I am a complete Linux newbie and freely admit it. I have spent the last hour reading forums and sites trying to figure out how to get any sound at all from my computer. I have installed the latest version of Mandrake (2006 Free Edition I believe) and am running the standard KDE desktop. During my initial installation, it recognized my Soundblaster Audigy 2 Value PCI sound card, and I went with the defualt drivers, which are the alsa drivers. Yet I have no sound coming out from my computer. I've tried several of the games that are included with the distro, and have tried playing a CD through KsCD (Which oddly enough recognizes whatever CD I put in, but when I hit play, it does nothing at all). Any help at all would be appreciated. I just want to be able to listen to my music and have some sound when I play games.
Guest armando2002
Just an update, I successfully ripped a CD with Sound Juicer, and tried playing it with amaroK, but there is still no sound coming from my speakers :(
devries
Open a console and type: alsamixer. Unmute every channel (by toggling m)
Guest armando2002
All of them were unmuted in the first place. Still no sound :(
devries
Then try different alsamixer settings. :)
aRTee
Check in kmix, there's a tab on the left side: switches. Make sure your Audigy Analog/Digital is on, or just play around with these. I have an Audigy 2, and it always takes some fiddling after a clean install, and then I forget, and 6 months later it pops its ugly head up again...
