SoulSe Posted December 5, 2005 Report Share Posted December 5, 2005 As aioshin said, it all depends on what kind of server you want / what you need it do. Just to elaborate though: If you're using a large LAN you might just need a router, firewall and DHCP server. This will handle the assigning of IP addresses on the LAN, route Internet access and provide security. It's also really simple to setup. I usually direct new users to webmin to achieve this. Webmin is installable in Mandriva via urpmi. It might be useful to set up some form of SAMBA server as well, if you have Windows boxes on the LAN. You can even enable Apple Talk support for Macs. For more advanced serving, such as mail, web, ftp, etc. - it can all be done with Mandriva.
