Guest thiedest
Hello, i'm a newbie, so sorry if my question seems stupid... I've installed mandriva 2006 in dualboot a few weeks ago and I can't use firefox and thunderbird simultaneously(sorry for my english, my mother's tongue is french). They use so much memory that after a 10 minutes my ram is full, my laptop slows a little bit, but that's ok. but it continues to increase memory usage, until my swap also is full... and my computer freezes. I don't know what's happening, and what I should do. it also happens when I use openoffice... under win, I had a utility that could optmize memory load and cpu usage. does that kind of programs exist under linux? oh, i forgot to give you my config: fujistu siemens a7640W amd athlon mobile 64 3200+ Ram 480mb HD 60GB(10 for linux) swap 1Gb Gfx Sis m760(shared memory) thx thiedest p.s. i'm also not able to play midi files... should i open another topic for that? lavaeolus
As far as I know thunderbird is not correctly installed by mandy 2006 See http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main...Linux2006Errata Issues with Mozilla based software when set up by the installer maybe your problem is related to this. You could uninstall firefox and thunderbird and reinstall them again for ram and cpu-usage optimization I don't think that something like this is really needed on linux For the midi problem I would recommend to open a new topic for this (sorry can't help you with the midi problem) btw. I'm not a native english speaker, as many others here, so no problem
Guest thiedest
searching through mandy bugzilla, I found out that kat was eating all the memory. Kat's bug in fact, with firefox, thunderbird and openoffice, the issue is bigger, because these progs use up a lot of memory too. now i disabled kat and everything's fine... i'm now waiting for this kat bug to be solved thx for the help
