neilinoz
I've just put in a new (used) motherboard (Gigabyte GA-6BXC) and a new (used) CPU (P3-600E). They are both working fine. I also installed a VIA brand Firewire card that I have attached to my camcorder (Canon MV700i). So far I can't seem to make them work. I go into the Mandrake Control Center and it recognises that the Firewire card is there, but there's nothing I can do with it. I want to be able to copy the camcorder tapes and burn them onto DVDs (I have a DVD-R/RW). I did a Google search on this site for the relevant info to see if it had been done before, but there was too much info. I did notice that it would be good for me to copy and paste the results of typing lspci -v -v into a console, so here it is: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX Host bridge (rev 03) Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort+ >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 64 Region 0: Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) Capabilities: [a0] AGP version 1.0 Status: RQ=32 Iso- ArqSz=0 Cal=0 SBA+ ITACoh- GART64- HTrans- 64bit- FW- AGP3- Rate=x1,x2 Command: RQ=1 ArqSz=0 Cal=0 SBA- AGP- GART64- 64bit- FW- Rate=<none> 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX AGP bridge (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [Normal decode]) Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- Status: Cap- 66Mhz+ UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 64 Bus: primary=00, secondary=01, subordinate=01, sec-latency=64 I/O behind bridge: 0000d000-0000dfff Memory behind bridge: ec000000-edffffff Prefetchable memory behind bridge: e0000000-e7ffffff BridgeCtl: Parity- SERR- NoISA- VGA+ MAbort- >Reset- FastB2B+ 00:07.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 ISA (rev 02) Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle+ MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap- 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 0 00:07.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 IDE (rev 01) (prog-if 80 [Master]) Control: I/O+ Mem- BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap- 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 64 Region 4: I/O ports at f000 00:07.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 USB (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [uHCI]) Control: I/O+ Mem- BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap- 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 64 Interrupt: pin D routed to IRQ 10 Region 4: I/O ports at e000 00:07.3 Bridge: Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 ACPI (rev 02) Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster- SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap- 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Interrupt: pin ? routed to IRQ 9 00:0a.0 Ethernet controller: Digital Equipment Corporation DECchip 21142/43 (rev 30) Subsystem: Digital Equipment Corporation DE500B Fast Ethernet Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap- 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 64 (5000ns min, 10000ns max), cache line size 08 Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 9 Region 0: I/O ports at e400 Region 1: Memory at ef000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) Expansion ROM at ee000000 [disabled] 00:0b.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): VIA Technologies, Inc. neilinoz
Downloaded and installed Kino 0.7.3 I go into preferences and find the following information: IEEE1394 The IEEE1394 Subsystem is not responding The raw 1394 module must be loaded, and you must have read and write access to dev/raw/1394. devries
Check if you have a /dev/raw/1394 and if you do, open a console, login as root and type: chmod 666 /dev/raw/1394
