hi there

i had configured and got running proftpd fine for a few weeks now, one day had to reboot the server for maintanance and when it got back up and i tried to connect to the ftp server i kept getting

500 OOPS: could not bind listening IPv4 socket

tried stopping it and starting it, same thing

went over to /var/log/proftpd but no logs there for it...is it just saying that another app is listening to that port? i cant see how another app may be listening but any help is appreciated :)

tnx!

You could run:

chkconfig --list

to display all the running services, and see if you can figure out what else might be listening on that port.

You might want to pipe it to a file, as it'll prob be too long to display on one screen.

i couldn't find any other service using that port but for now since it was becoming really frustarating plus the ftp is really needed so i just decided to set it to run on a different port for now

tnx for the quick reply :)
