blackhat101
I was interested in finding out before I blindly spend my money, if anyone here is or has installed the Mandriva 2005Le Silver Edtion? And if anyone can tell me the difference between that edition and the Free 2005 LE.
AussieJohn
Silver ??? Isn't that one of the Mandriva Club membership categories ??? If it is then Mandriva obtained from there will be the Mandriva2005-LE set with 5 or 6 cdroms (equivalent to the Power Pack or similar) instead of the standard free 3cdrom set. The extra cdroms contains stuff equivalent to Contributors, PLF-free and PLF-non-free and so on. Its a good way to support Mandriva financially. Cheers. John. blackhat101
stuff equivalent to Contributors, PLF-free and PLF-non-free PLF I don't know what that means. Yes it is the six cd set i was thinking of signing up a membership for. Do you know what any of the extra packages are? Maybe I should just be content with the 3 cd set of LE that i am using now. Just curious.
daniewicz
From cheapbytes.com Mandriva-Linux 2005 Limited - 6 CD Set Shipping $13.
solarian
Basically you get a lot of extra stuff on cds that anyways can be found on net. PLF is Penguin Liberation Front and they host (a lot of useful) non-open source packages. It's one of the rpm sources you can add to your urpmi. If you want to support Mandriva, get the membership. If not - it's not worth the money imho.

solarian
As I've heard cheapbytes.com sells those cds without the permission of Mandriva and nothing from the purchase goes to Mandrakesoft
blackhat101
Right on Guys, I'll check out the - Penguin Liberation Front and update my packages with the urpmi. Think I'll pass on membership for now simply because i don't like doing monetary transactions online.
