It's not very clear from your post, but it sounds like you are getting lilo to load but that you ultimately get a kernel panic or filesystem mount errors. Both would indicate that fstab is out of whack with the current environment.

 

yeah, that is exactly what the screen says, "kernel panic"; is sounds a bit like an 80's TV villain to me. Thanks for the help, I'll post back with an update.

 

Edit: It seems that my new old hard disk was not properly installed, and both my DVD and Old HD wanted to be masters rather than one be a slave. I'm not sure how to fix this, but I'm wokring on it I guess.

There's a jumper on the CD/DVD/HDD that allows you to select Master, Slave, or Cable Select. Normally I set my HDD's to Master, and the CD/DVD to Slave. It's on the back of the CD/DVD, HDD's normally have a sticker on, to show the position of the jumper to set it for one of the options.
