X Window does not start

Specification of computer:-

Compaq Evo D315 PC

 

 

PROCESSOR : AMD Athlon XP processor 1800+1

CHIPSET : NVIDIA® nForce chipset with TwinBank Memory architecture,DASP preprocessor, AMD Hypertransport? I/O bus delivering throughput speeds up to 800MB/sec.

GRAPHICS : Integrated NVIDIA® nForce? featuring GeForce2 graphics (AGP 4X)

NETWORK : Accton 10/100 PCI NIC wit Wake On LAN or Intel 10/100 PCI NIC with Wake On LAN and alert On LAN

OPERATING SYSTEM : LINUX

SOFTWARE : Mandrake Linux Standard OEM Edition 8.2 brought by HPfor Compaq EVO PC Office Applications part no:01HP8201EN

Problem:-

I bought the above computer from Alfa Consultants, Coimbatore (INDIA) on Jan 24, 2003.Machine No:P252LMG10078

I failed to install X window system as it exits with the following remark "(EE) NVIDIA (0): failed to initialize the NV driver kernel module.

(EE) NVIDIA (0):Aborting"

I am able to install RedHat 7.1 with 600x480 screen in the same box.This again is not satisfactory.

GRAPHICS : Integrated NVIDIA® nForce? featuring GeForce2 graphics (AGP 4X)

The first step will be to go to Nvidia's site and download their driver for the GForce video card. Follow their instructions very closely and refer to their discussion forum for problems and solutions.
