hippocampe
I finally upgraded from 9.1 to 10.1 (mainly due to new rpms not installing). The Gnome desktop was not installed by default even if I checked it in the list during installation. I decided to install it afterwards using urpmi. During the first login into gnome, things were really messed up. I don't know if it didnt like the settings from the previous version but all I had was a horrible looking desktop with ugly icons, NO taskbar or panels/menu. Nautilus shows nothing in my home directory I'm sure I did something wrong because Gnome used to me much better than this. Did I miss anything during the installation or did everyone have to go through all the Gnome settings again after installing 10.1? Also, I don't know which widgets these applications use but the dialogs in Evolution, firefox, xmms look like they're from Gnome 1.4 Thanks for any suggestions! arctic
I always make sure to remove all my gtk /gnome related hidden files first. Just like KDE, GNOME uses partially different scripts with every new release, so using the old confg files can mess up things. Once you have deleted the old config files, it should work okay again. And just in case, you should log in as root in a non-gui (=cli) and run urpmi --auto-select again, in case any package was not downloaded properly/skipped accidently.
