Would someone kindly help me out regarding the modem trouble that I am having.

I got the above modem set up in linux mandrake limited 2005 10.1 version. The modem is an external modem.

I am able to dial into the internet and says that it connects but I am unable to start a browser and any site that I type into firefox does not go there.

This is what I got in the console:

Opener: received Set Secret

Opener: received Set Secret

Opener: received Open Lock

Opener: received Open Device

Opener: received Exec PPP Daemon

In parent: pppd pid 18626

Couldn't find interface ppp 0: no such device

kernel supports ppp alright

Opener: received Open Resolv

Opener: received Open Resolv

Opener: received Open Resolv

Opener: received Remove Secret

Opener: received Remove Secret

Does anyone know how I can get the browser to work to go to internet sites. Do I have to install something to make it work?

Thanks for any help.

:P :help:

you mean you actually able to connect? have you tried to #ifconfig after it connects just to check if ppp0 exist and has been assigned with an IP from your ISP.

Yes I am able to connect with the modem. It dials up and everything then when I checked like you suggested #if config in the console I did not get anything but it then dropped the carrier and I got the following:

It was pppd that died

pppd exited with return value 0

sending 18398 a sigusr1

How do I turn off the firewall?

Thanks.

I haven't used a modem for a good while now, but almost all problems I had stemmed from the fire wall.

Try turning it off and see what yuo get.

I turned off the firewall and I got firefox to work.

What firewall would you suggest to use? I know that zone alarm does not make their program for linux.

Thanks.
